Daron Acemoglu is a Turkish-American economist of Armenian origin. He is an Institute Professor at MIT, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the American Philosophical Society (2021), and the British and Turkish Academies of Sciences. He is among the world’s ten most cited economists. In 2024, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for his research on differences in nations’ prosperity.
